MINI . How to Replace the Headlight Bulbs on a 2004 VW New BeetleIf you drive the new generation of the Volkswagen Beetle, you probably already know a few key differences between the newer and classic Beetle models. First, the engine is in the front, instead of the rear, as was the case with the classic Beetle. What you may not know is that changing the headlights is a bit different than on most vehicles. The headlights are inaccessible without removing the headlight housing. But, there are no screws or bolts holding the housing to the chassis. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Replacement H1 headlight Step by Step : 1 Open the hood of your Beetle and look between the first two fender-mounting bolts. Then, look down a few inches from there. There is a small knob, which is the release knob for the headlight-housing assembly. 2 Push the release knob down and then all the way up as far as it will go. 3 Push the headlight housing forward from the back of the housing. 4 Unplug the headlight connector from the back of the headlight. 5 Push down on the plastic tab on the back of the headlight housing and slide the black plastic cover down to reveal the headlight. 6 Remove the spring clip from the back of the headlight by pulling it off with your fingers. The headlight bulb will come out of the back of the headlight housing when you do this. 7 Install the new headlight bulb and replace the spring clip to secure the headlight to the housing. Installation of the removed components is the reverse of removal.
MINI . How to Replace a Xenon Headlight Bulb in a BMW E46The headlights in your BMW E46 are xenon headlights. These headlights offer improved brightness over halogen headlights. However, when the xenon headlight bulbs finally fail, you'll need to replace them. Replacement headlight bulbs can be purchased from any auto-parts store. It's generally a good idea for you to replace both of the headlights on your BMW when you replace one of them. This is because both of your headlights have been burning for the same length of time. When one burns out, it is likely that the other one will fail shortly thereafter. The E46 can use a variety of high-intensity discharge (HID) headlight bulbs, but is equipped with xenon headlights in the 4000K-5000K HID range. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Replacement HID headlight bulbs Step by Step : 1 Open the hood of your BMW and unplug the power connector on the back of the headlight. 2 Pry off the dust cover from the back of the headlight housing using your fingers. 3 Grab the headlight by the collar and rotate it counterclockwise and remove it from the headlight housing. 4 Insert the new bulb into the back of the housing and rotate the it clockwise. This will secure the headlight to the housing. 5 Press the dust cover back over the headlight housing. Make sure it fits snugly over the headlight. This will help keep contaminants out of the housing assembly. 6 Plug the headlight connector into the back of the headlight. Just loosen the clamps, remove the hose, slide the new clamps on the new hose, slip the ends of the hose over whatever they connect to, and tighten the clamps. If the hose is a fuel hose: When the engine is shut off, most of the fuel flows back to the fuel tank. So you need only to stick the first end of the hose you remove into a clean can and allow whatever fuel remains in the hose to drain into it. When you finish the job, pour the fuel in the can back into your gas tank. (If you've managed to contaminate the fuel, put it into a container with a tight-fitting lid and take it to a toxic waste disposal center.) Obviously, you're not going to smoke while you do this job! Also, if any fuel leaks onto the ground, clean it up thoroughly and dispose of the rags immediately so that they won't be a fire hazard. . Chapter 14: Keeping Your Car from Getting Heartburn 2 1 C If the hose contains liquid under pressure: To prevent leaks, some manuals suggest putting a water-resistant sealant on the ends of the fittings to which the hose connects. Because these sealants tend to make the hoses difficult to remove when you need to replace them again, I suggest that you try it without sealant first. In most cases, if the hose is the right one and the clamps are on tight enough, you should be able to get by without it. If the hose leaks, you can always go back and use the sealant as recommended. If the hose is a radiator or heater hose: You'll need a bucket or pan that holds at least 2 gallons of liquid to catch the coolant and water that will run out of the system. MINI . Will aig gain?
Volkswagen CC. * Never allow coolant to drain onto the ground. If you don't know why, see "Keeping coolant out of the mouths of babes and small animals" earlier in this chapter. If you haven't flushed your cooling system and replaced the coolant in the past year, do so at the same time you replace the hose. (See "Flushing Your System and Changing Your Coolant" earlier in this chapter for instructions.) Some newer engines have cooling systems that need to be bled (see Step 9 in the following list). If your engine falls in this category, the cooling system will contain special bleeder screws. If you're not sure what type of system your vehicle has, check the owner's manual or ask a mechanic before you undertake this job. Now follow these steps: 1. Remove the radiator cap and place the bucket or drain pan under the radiator drain valve (called the petcock). 2. MINI . How do you change brake light bulb on zafira?
